Our commitment
Advancing Autism brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, students, families, and autistic people. We are committed to an event where everyone is treated with dignity and can participate fully, regardless of neurotype, disability, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, language, religion, or professional background.
Expected behavior
Be respectful in discussion and disagreement. Speak about autistic people with respect, and recognize that people may prefer different language to describe themselves. Respect different communication styles, sensory needs, and the use of stimming, movement, breaks, or assistive technology. Ask before photographing or recording people. Follow staff and venue instructions.
Unacceptable behavior
Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form; offensive comments related to the characteristics listed above; unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention; disrupting sessions; photographing or recording people who have asked not to be; sharing others’ personal or clinical information without consent; and unsolicited sales or promotion outside designated areas.
Reporting a concern
If you experience or witness behavior that breaks this code, tell any staff member at the event or email Advancingglobal@gmail.com. Reports are handled promptly and as confidentially as possible. We will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who makes a report in good faith. In an emergency, call 911.
Consequences
The organizers may take any action they consider appropriate, including a warning or removal from the event without a refund, and may involve venue security or law enforcement.
